Buying A Silk Pillowcase: Benefits and Value
Investing in a silk pillowcase is a smart idea! Sleeping on a silk pillowcase is wonderful for beauty, health, and wellness. But how can you be sure you're getting the best value when buying a mulberry silk pillowcase? And what should you be looking at when comparing two brands of top silk pillowcases?
At Mulberry Park Silks, we have answers. Along with offering high-quality silk bedding at fair prices, our mission includes educating our clients about silk. We want to help you understand the many benefits of silk pillowcases and silk sheets, including how wonderful it is for taming frizz and split ends (especially on curly hair or frizzy hair); preventing hair breakage; keeping sensitive skin well moisturized; minimizing sleep wrinkles; and giving you a great night of beauty sleep. We'll also show you how to evaluate silk pillowcases when you're shopping. When it comes to fine silk, you want to get what you pay for. However, you need not overpay for high quality.
Comparing Two Top-Rated Silk Pillowcase Brands
Let's compare two popular mulberry silk pillowcase options in 22 momme weight: a Blissy silk pillowcase and a Mulberry Park Silks pillowcase (both in Queen size, white). We'll take a look at the quality, feel, features, and pricing of each and help you determine which best fits your needs and budget.

Blissy Silk Pillowcase Review
Blissy Silk Pillow Case Quality
This well-known brand is a leader in the mulberry silk pillowcase and bedding market. While Blissy offers a wide color selection, their white pillowcase is, in fact, an ivory color; there is no true "white" available. A Blissy pillowcase uses 100 percent pure mulberry silk of Grade 6A, which is the highest quality silk in the market. Their pillowcases are certified and labeled STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® which means that every component of the item has been independently tested and certified safe for human health. Blissy pillowcases are machine washable with instructions easily located on the website.
Blissy Silk Pillow Cover Design
Blissy's pillowcase features some design details that may not be ideal for everyone. First, there is a simple hidden zipper closure which, while being easy to open and close, does not feel like the highest quality; we wonder whether it will hold up to extended use. Also, the zipper seam and tab can be felt through the fabric. It may look unobtrusive, but may poke and prod depending on what kind of sleeper you are. Blissy also adds an embroidered monogram to their silk pillow case in matching color thread; it's unobtrusive but not everyone likes the look. Some super sensitive people might be able to feel or notice it against their skin. Lastly, the top and bottom seams of the pillow cover are “hidden" under material that has been ironed; these creases may disappear from the silk fabric with washing and not look as good.
Blissy Silk Companion Products
While they offer a variety of colors and patterns, Blissy does NOT sell silk sheets. They are a silk pillowcase and accessory company (think: silk scrunchie, eye mask, etc.)

Blissy Product Packaging
The Blissy pillow cover comes in a lovely pull-tab box with a grosgrain ribbon embossed with a metallic logo, size, and momme weight. However, the box has a flimsy feel and can definitely be easily crushed.

Our Recommendation: Mulberry Park Silks
Unless you are looking for an unusual color, we believe that a pure silk pillowcase by Mulberry Park Silks is by far the better choice. Along with being made from equal quality pure mulberry silk, and being OEKO-TEX® certified, the Mulberry Park Silks pillowcase features a more comfortable design without the uncertainty of a zipper that could break or seams that won't hold up to washing. We also don't think it's necessary to pay nearly a hundred dollars for a silk pillowcase that comes with a company logo, no matter how subtle.
There are also significant differences between the two companies. Blissy appears to be a beauty company that sells silk pillowcases and silk accessories. Mulberry Park Silks, on the other hand is a true fine linen company that sells pure silk bedding and silk duvet covers in a variety of sizes and styles as well as real silk accessories. This is especially important for anyone who is “testing out" silk with a pillowcase and considering upgrading to silk sheets in the future; with Mulberry Park Silks, you can buy matching sheets, shams and duvet covers from a trusted brand.
That distinction may help explain the price differential between Blissy and Mulberry Park Silks. Perhaps it is possible to charge so much more when selling a silk pillowcase as a beauty item. In any case, a Mulberry Park Silks Queen pillowcase (or two) is absolutely the best choice for your money.

*Momme is a unit of weight measurement for silk. A higher momme weight silk pillowcase or silk sheet set will have proportionately more silk in it and the individual silk fibers will be thicker. In this way, momme silk is similar to thread count for a cotton pillowcase or sheets.
